Cape Henry Running Festival & Duathlon

Attention all Cape Henry Race registrants:

As many of you know, and many of you were there, this year’s race was cancelled due to inclement weather that included tornado watch, severe rain and lightening. The decision to cancel was not taken lightly by race staff. At 8:30, after the 10 miler was supposed to start, an assessment was made. With more threatening weather on the radar to the south, significant flooding and debris washed onto both the run and bike course and considering the course closure time limits placed on us by the base and the city, the determination was made that the event could not be run in a safe manner. Please be assured that we were as disappointed as you may have been. We plan all year for this race, as you train for your races, and it all comes together when each of you have crossed the finish line and we have picked up, pulled up and packed up our equipment. This event could not happen without the dedicated efforts of many loyal volunteers. Please take the time to thank one of them who spent two days in the rain making great efforts to pull this event together.

After further evaluation and input from registrants, the race has decided to extend its offer of $10.00 off entry of those affected by the event cancellation until June 30, 2009. This will allow you to plan your racing without rushing into any commitments. The race next year has been tentatively scheduled for 11/21/2009. This, of course, is subject to change this early in the planning stages. An announcement will be made and you will be provided with your coupon code once the race date is final and registration has begun.

Again, thank you all for your support throughout the past seven years. The proceeds from our event does make a difference in the lives of many youngsters.
